Steven is the founder of the WA Law Group.
He acts or has acted for insurers, international banks, financial institutions, property developers, resort operators and, just as importantly, literally thousands of everyday people as his clients so he has well rounded legal experience.
He has for over 30 years successfully helped many people get their lives back on track when the actions of others have affected them.
Steven has degrees in Commerce and Law which assist him understand the financial complexities that often confront people in troubled times. He also understands that in an increasingly technical world, as much as he is focussed on the WA Law Group being cutting edge and innovative to help deliver the best legal service, that it is still important for a law firm to be personal as each client has their own story which has to be heard to get the legal help they need.
This experience and understanding allows Steven to cut through the complicated legal jungle and create a path for his clients to get the outcome they deserve and importantly do what the WA Law Group promises by keeping things SIMPLE.
Nathan Lord
Areas of Law
Lawyer and Head of Compensation Claims
Nathan is the WA Law Group’s Head of Compensation Claims. Nathan began his career in England where he qualified as a lawyer in 2000, whilst working for one of England’s best regarded insurance and compensation claim firms.
He left the gloomy English weather for the sunshine of Perth in 2007 and was admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2008. Since then, Nathan has become an expert in Western Australia’s road incident and compensation laws acting for both insurers and individuals.
Nathan loves to help people and so he chose to act only for individuals and joined the WA Law Group in 2022. He manages the WA Law Group’s outstanding compensation team in WA and under Nathan’s guidance the team is focussed on helping people rebuild their lives.
Nathan is a pragmatic lawyer who gives clients clear and straight forward advice without the usual legal jargon and complexity. He genuinely cares about what is best for his clients and works hard to get the outcome his clients deserve.
Being a focussed compensation expert lawyer means that Nathan is fully committed to his client and their claim from the very start until the final resolution.
Nathan is married with three children which keeps him busy and in his spare time he can be found walking his dog, playing football (soccer) or camping in beautiful WA in his swag!
Nigel Smith
Senior Paralegal
Nigel, who was born in Halifax in the United Kingdom, embarked on his journey in the insurance industry in the early 90s, initially specialising in motor vehicle personal injury claims on the Defendant side. His career trajectory led him through various roles in different insurance companies before transitioning to a plaintiff-focused role at a law firm, marking his final stint in the UK job market.
In 2012, Nigel successfully secured sponsorship from the Insurance Commission of WA, prompting his move to Perth. He re-entered the defendant arena, gaining diverse experience over nearly six years at ICWA, including roles as a claims handler, catastrophic claims handler, investigator, and team leader.
A pivotal moment came when Nathan, a colleague and collaborator, convinced Nigel to switch sides and join the plaintiff team at another law firm. The duo spent five fruitful years working together, solidifying their professional partnership.
Fast forward to September 2022, Nigel reunited with Nathan at WA Law Group, marking a new chapter in their collaborative journey. Known for his straightforward communication, conscientious approach, and unwavering work ethic, Nigel is dedicated to providing exceptional client care.
Outside the professional realm, Nigel is a family man, happily married with two children. He has a passion for holidaying, whether it’s camping in the great outdoors or indulging in more luxurious getaways. Beyond his legal pursuits, Nigel is a qualified football coach, investing a significant portion of his time in the local football club.
Alicia Tuckerman
Senior Law Clerk
Alicia is a Senior Law Clerk with a career in the legal field spanning almost two decades.
Originally from New South Wales, Alicia has worked in the Eastern States and the United Kingdom before moving to Western Australia in 2009. Since 2011 Alicia has worked solely for individuals who have been injured as a result of accidents or negligence.
Alicia is a highly skilled practitioner with extensive experience in motor vehicle accident claims, workers’ compensation claims, public liability claims and other insurance claims including income protection and TPD claims. She has a background founded in complex litigation and contested claims and has recently worked in the practice area of historical sexual abuse, representing survivors in their damages claims made against institutions and State Departments.
She is meticulous and tenacious whilst remaining approachable and down to earth. Her attention to detail and legal acumen coupled with her understanding and friendly manner make her a valuable member of the WA Law Group’s compensation team. Alicia is passionate and dedicated to her clients and always strives to achieve the best outcomes in an informed and sensitive manner.
Alicia has two children and two fur children that keep her on her toes. In her spare time, you can find her camping with the kids, fishing and watching the rugby. She’s also a published author, working on her next novel!
